Search closes in on the 'God particle'

* 21 March 2009

IF THE Higgs boson has any groupies they'll certainly be heading to Hamburg, Germany, this August. That's where the particle that reputedly gives all others their mass might just make its long-overdue debut.

If does exist, it is almost certainly being created right now at Fermilab's Tevatron in Illinois. But the question is whether enough particles can be made to reveal themselves by their decay products.

What to see in the sky this week

* 18:02 20 March 2009 by Alan M MacRobert, SkyandTelescope.com

Some daily events in the changing sky for March 20 - 28.

Comet Lulin continues fading this week; it's about 7th magnitude - too faint to be seen with the naked eye. But at least it's high in the evening sky (in central Gemini) and free of moonlight until about March 29th. And its tail is double again! See this article and finder chart (pdf).

veracity \vuh-RAS-i-tee\, noun:
1. truthfulness
2. truth

I have unexpectedly mastered the art of how to control my emotions better these days. I'm closing my mind alot better than I expected.

Occlumency.
"An obscure branch of magic, but a highly useful one."
-- Severus Snape (OP24)

occulto - (Latin) to hide, conceal, cover (the English word 'occlude' comes from this root, as well as the modern astronomy terms about one celestial body hiding another from view)

mens - (Latin) mind

Occlumency is the art of magically defending the mind against external penetration, sealing it against magical intrusion and influence - the defensive counter to Legilimency. A practitioner of Occlumency is referred to as an Occlumens.

A deep art of the conceal the thoughts of the mind indeed. Leonard terms my "craze" over Harry Potter saga and the Twilight saga as acts of immature. However, what is truly mature? Who/What defines some elses maturity level?

Going back to the most definite way of providing answers to questions like this, would be to trace it back to its definition.

Mature \muh-toor, -tyoor, -choor, -chur\, adjective
  1. fully developed in body or mind, as a person: a mature woman
  2. intended for or restricted to adults, esp. by reason of explicit sexual content or the inclusion of violence or obscene language: mature movies.
  3. composed of adults, considered as being less susceptible than minors to explicit sexual content, violence, or obscene language, as of a film or stage performance: for mature audiences only.

As we can see from the 3 definitions I have acquired, it is doubtless to say no one can truly measure and define what exactly is being mature.

Anyway, I began to realise how much I like to play with my food, as in figuratively. I seem to like to plot things ahead and see how to fall for it, no matter how tiny the booby trap I might have set for them. I just sorts of intrigues me how people react and how creative and wild my idea of a joke might get.

Well, of course, it usually tend to stray a bit of course here and there, but nevertheless still interesting. I like the feeling of being in control I guess. Controlling peoples emotion, mind, thoughts and action makes me feel.. sort of great. It is quite a cool feeling I guess. Maybe you should try that some time.

Alot of times, people tend to measure the qualities of those around him/her with respect to himself/herself. However, due to this, people are blinded by their own defaults and strenghts and as such, very often wrong judgement is made of those people around them. I would say that person has a pretty big ego, wouldn't you agree too?

That would be all for today.

Ja-na!~
