Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written early in the career of playwright William Shakespeare about two teenage "star-cross'd lovers" whose untimely deaths ultimately unite their feuding families. It was among Shakespeare's most popular plays during his lifetime and, along with Hamlet, is one of his most frequently performed plays. Today, the title characters are regarded as archetypal young lovers.

Romeo and Juliet belongs to a tradition of tragic romances stretching back to antiquity. Its plot is based on an Italian tale, translated into verse as The Tragical History of Romeus and Juliet by Arthur Brooke in 1562, and retold in prose in Palace of Pleasure by William Painter in 1582. Shakespeare borrowed heavily from both, but developed supporting characters, particularly Mercutio and Paris, in order to expand the plot. Believed to be written between 1591 and 1595, the play was first published in a quarto version in 1597. This text was of poor quality, and later editions corrected it, bringing it more in line with Shakespeare's original text.

Valentine's Day Special: Say it with flowers

WANT to woo someone with flowers? How about something really special, such as a blue rose, or maybe even an orchid that glows in the dark?

Plant scientists have been trying for years to genetically modify flowers for aesthetic purposes. The first to go on sale were blue carnations produced by Florigene of Melbourne, Australia, in 1996.

However, producing flowers with dramatic new colours or smells has proved much harder than expected. Florigene's attempts to develop a true-blue rose, by switching off production of red pigment and adding a blue pigment gene from the iris, have been only partially successful.

Friday the 13th, seems to be a rather unlucky day for me though. Early in the morning, I had to watch four buses 188, drive pass my stop. I missed the early one at 6.33am and the following four buses were all packed to the max. Unlucky indeed, you should agree. In the end, I manage to get on the 6th bus with a little effort, but was still late for school. Luckily, the bad luck ended by then as the day ended rather smoothly even during Chinese lesson. So it wasn't that bad after all.

Met up with Daryl and Eddie in the late afternoon to play basketball at Collin's place. Daryl and Eddie's Valentine's Day Eve seems to be exceptionally interesting as both of them bought gifts for their individual crush. Eddie describes his short tale of how he ran from the forth story to the bus stop outside of the campus, racing against time or rather the bus, that was going to reach the bus stop and "take" away his crush. Rather exciting and sweet eh? However, he spends quite alot thus far.

As for Daryl, he has ordered a hundred over dollars pendant from our friend Yan Hao, whose family is in the jewellery industry. Just for his crush for Valentine's Day. An expensive gift indeed. Just to spoil the mood a little, I wonder did he thought of where there money came from and would it burn him in future if they don't get together. Most probably, thoes question I stated, didn't came acorss his mind.



For me,
this is just another day.
