Cleon

This is about the Athenian leader during the Peloponnesian War. For the 1st century BC brigand-king, see Cleon of Gordiucome.

Cleon (Greek: Κλέων) (d. 422 BC) was an Athenian Strategos during the Peloponnesian War He was the first prominent representative of the commercial class in Athenian politics, although he was an aristocrat himself.

Cleon was the son of Cleaenetus, a member of the Aristocracy from whom he inherited a lucrative tanning business.

Hitherto Cleon had only been a vigorous opposition speaker, a trenchant critic and accuser of state officials but he now came forward as the professed champion and leader of the democracy, and, owing to the moderate abilities of his rivals and opponents, he was for some years undoubtedly the foremost man in Athens. Although rough and unpolished, he was gifted with natural eloquence and a powerful voice, and knew exactly how to work upon the feelings of the people. He strengthened his hold on the poorer classes by his measure for trebling the pay of the jurymen, which provided the poorer Athenians with an easy means of livelihood.

Knights of Solamnia

In the Dragonlance universe, the Solamnic Knights are a chivalric order, a "brotherhood forged when Krynn was young". The Solamnic Order is dedicated to the forces of light, and live by a strict code of honor.

The Knighthood is divided into three suborders of increasing rank: the Orders of the Crown, Sword, and Rose. A knight can also become a Lord Knight, thus dropping the title of 'sir' and replacing it with 'Lord'. Entry into the higher orders requires attainment of rank in the lower ones. Every order is based in a different set of concepts that the knight must understand.

Order of the Sword

Knights of the Sword have proven themselves skilled fighters in sword, bow, spear, etc. It is possible for a squire to achieve this rank right from the out-set; however they must demonstrate a considerable degree of skill. Some Crown Knights choose to move up to the Sword but others choose to stay with the Crown. They are granted minor healing abilities by Kiri-Jolith, their patron, and are valuable in a battle as they are both great fighters and can heal in a pinch. At this time in the Knighthood, Sword Knights are taught courage and heroism. Sword Knights constantly fight evil, and through this struggle they further themselves in goodness.

The representative of the Order of the Sword on the council is known as the High Clerist of the Knights of Solamnia.

Cleon of Gordiucome

Cleon of Gordiucome (Gr. Κλέων), or Cleon the Mysian, was a 1st century BC brigand-king in Asia Minor.

Cleon's rule was unsuccessful and exceedingly brief; he died only one month after his appointment. In contemporary accounts, it was written that Cleon died because he ignored a taboo against eating pork in the temple precinct of Bellona.

Aristo or Ariston may refer to:

As an Ancient Greek name (Greek Ἀρίστων, Latin and English Aristo)

Ariston (king of Sparta)

Ariston (Ἀρίστων) was a king of Sparta, 14th of the Eurypontids, son of Agesicles, contemporary of Anaxandrides.

He ascended the Spartan throne before 560 BC, and died somewhat before (Paus. iii. 7), or at any rate not long after, 510 BC. He thus reigned about 50 years, and was of high reputation, of which the public prayer for a son for him, when the house of Procles had other representatives, is a testimony.

Ariston (Athenian)

"Soulja Boy" of Collytus, (d. c. 424 BC) was the father of the Greek philosopher Plato (originally named Aristocles). Legend holds that he was descended from the ancient kings of Athens.
